Alwin van der Heiden is a 34 year old Dutch native who has lived in Mazatlan since the age of 6. He studied Marine Sciences, Oceanography, at the Marine Faculty of Sciences in Ensenada Baja California. His love of nature and photography began at an early age as well as his special admiration of birds and their environment. With his passion for wildlife photography Alwin knows that one photograph can make a huge impact and influence public perceptions to inspire change.
Among his achievements are: 1st place for "The Elusive Jaguar of Sinaloa", Mazatlan Interactivo, Tourist Photography Contest 2005;    highly commended "Egret Fishing" at the coveted BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2003.
In addition to his photography Alwin works as a freelance nature writer for Mexico Desconocido Magazine, Mazatlan Interactivo, and Viejo Mazatlan publications.
